Our Story

We were founded in 1999 as the Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP) through a joint initiative of the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment and the Elora Environment Centre. The project’s goal was to match academic research with practical action in the community.

In late 2005, REEP incorporated to become REEP Green Solutions (with the legal name of Waterloo Region Green Solutions) and it joined Green Communities Canada, a national association of environmental community groups that share programs and resources.

Since 1999, our Certified Energy Advisors have evaluated 14,000 homes for energy efficiency, helping Region residents save an estimated 21,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually through their home retrofits. Starting in 2016, we provide home energy evaluations over much of southwestern Ontario.
